The Coral Sea Pools homepage — a dark hero over a vanishing-edge pool at dusk, headline reading “Custom gunite pools, built across Westchester since 1982.”

The situation

A gunite pool is a five-figure decision, made once, by a household that has never bought one before. Coral Sea has been building them out of one office in Briarcliff Manor since 1982 — forty-four years, twelve Best of Westchester wins, three counties. That record is the entire reason to pick them, and on most trade websites it sits in a paragraph on an About page nobody opens.

The thinking

A homeowner comparing builders is not asking who has the nicest photographs. They are asking four narrower things: can you build on my ground, what will it cost, how long will my garden be a hole, and will you still answer the phone in five years.

So the site is ordered around those four rather than around a conventional page structure. The proof comes first, the build sequence is spelled out in order, the towns are named, and the money question is answered rather than deflected to a contact form.

The design

A dark hero over water, then the page opens out into light — the palette is drawn from the product itself rather than applied to it. Numbers do the talking early: 1982, 44, 12, 3, set as four cards directly under the fold so the credentials are read before anything is claimed in prose.

Type is a high-contrast serif with italics used to carry the turn in each heading. The seven build stages are numbered and sequential, because the order is the reassurance — you cannot tile a pool before it is shot, and saying so plainly is what makes the rest of it credible.

The build

One page with anchored sections rather than a scatter of thin ones. A local trade business is not a publishing operation, and nine near-empty town pages built for search engines are worse than one page that names the nine towns and means it.

Nine towns, six real Google reviews quoted rather than summarised into a star rating, and the six questions everyone asks answered in full — including cost, which is the one most builders refuse to go near.

WHAT IT DEMONSTRATES

Structuring a high-consideration local trade purchase around the buyer’s real objections, turning a long trading history into visible proof, and making a single page carry what is usually spread across a dozen.

WHAT I’D CHANGE

Mobile performance is 67 and there is exactly one cause: the hero video is a 4.4MB MP4, which drags LCP to 9.8s. Nothing else on the page is slow — total blocking time is 0ms and layout shift is 0. I would ship a poster frame as the LCP element and let the video arrive behind it, which is a morning’s work for most of that score. SEO reads 66 here only because the preview is deliberately marked noindex; `is-crawlable` is the single failing audit.
