CASE STUDY

Seventy years of practice, finally doing some work on the page.

The Scarsdale Dental Group homepage — a warm, light hero with the headline “Creating Smiles for a Lifetime” above a row of service cards.

The situation

Choosing a dentist is a trust decision made by somebody who cannot evaluate the work. Nobody browsing can tell a good implant from a bad one, so the judgement gets made on everything around it: how long the practice has been there, whether the place looks like it takes itself seriously, and whether anybody has said so out loud.

Scarsdale Dental Group has served the same village for over seventy years, by their own account, and does implant work most practices refer out. On the existing site that record is one sentence inside a paragraph, which is where most trade practices put the only thing that would actually persuade somebody.

The thinking

Two questions decided the structure. What does a nervous visitor need to believe before they will call a dentist they have never met? And which of these services is the one worth building the page around?

The answers were the seventy years and the implants. Everything else is arranged to support those two, rather than presented as a flat list where a routine cleaning and full-arch implant work carry the same visual weight.

The design

Light and warm rather than clinical. Dental photography is mostly faces and bright rooms, and it reads badly against the dark editorial treatment that suited the detailing build — the same layout in near-black would have made a family practice look like a surgery.

The services are laid out so a visitor can place themselves quickly: implants and Instant Teeth first, then general and preventive, cosmetic, clear braces, TMJ and sleep apnea. The technology section exists for one reason, which is that somebody weighing implant surgery wants to know what the practice can see before it starts.

The build

Hand-coded front-end, no page builder. Responsive across the sizes people actually browse at, checked at real phone dimensions rather than a narrowed desktop window. Images optimised so the page holds up on mobile data, which is where most local searches for a dentist happen.

WHAT IT DEMONSTRATES

Structuring a trust-led healthcare practice around its strongest credential, separating high-value treatment from routine care, and holding a warm register without losing hierarchy.

WHAT I’D CHANGE

Measured on a preview subdomain, not on the client’s domain — scarsdaledentalgroup.com still serves their previous site, so this is not what their patients reach. SEO reads 66 for one reason only: `is-crawlable` fails because the preview is deliberately marked noindex, and across three runs it was the single failing audit of any kind. Performance measured 88 in September and re-measures at 73 today; the older, better number is not the one on the page. The headroom is image delivery and unused JavaScript, not anything structural.
